Everyone says “do something with AI.” Nobody says what.
The vendors want to sell a platform, the consultants want to sell a roadmap, and the owner wants to know which two things would pay back this year.
In our experience of running an agency on these tools, two things can be measured in weeks: whether AI assistants recommend you to buyers, and which recurring tasks eat hours that a tool would give back. We sell exactly those two, as fixed-price audits with a written plan at the end, and a marketing department that produces with AI and signs off with people.
Where we differ
We are not a software vendor and we do not sell "transformation". Our own invoices go out on the 15th and our contractor dashboard rebuilds on the 8th from scheduled runs; we recommend what we run.

Each audit has a fixed scope and ends with a written plan; the department runs every month.

AI Search Visibility
$3,500 audit · 10 business days
You know buyers now ask ChatGPT and Google AI who to hire. You do not know what they answer about you. In 10 business days: what four engines say, who they name instead of you, a fix map and a 90-day plan. Then run it yourself, with your agency, or with us on a monthly retainer.

How we run
NDG on AI
The methods we recommend are the ones we use on our own agency every week. Facts, not a roadmap.
- Client invoices go out on the 15th of every month from a scheduled run, without anyone opening Word.
- Contractor payments are reconciled and the dashboard rebuilt on the 8th, by the same kind of run.
- A website audit that used to take a week now draws on five data sources in one day.
- The pages of this website were drafted, checked for speed and accessibility, and measured with AI tools, with a person deciding every line.
We don't publish a before/after hours figure. We haven't measured it properly yet. What we can show: our monthly invoices and the contractor reconciliation run on a schedule; site audits and redirect maps are built by scripts; first drafts of copy and reports start with AI tools. The new newdesigngroup.ca, 37 pages and a map of 575 old addresses, was built this way in October 2026. This site is the example.

What we do
not sell
So you do not have to ask. An "AI agency" that sells everything is selling slides.
Automation agents and custom integrationsWe take these on with an implementation partner, case by case, after the audit shows they pay back. Not sold off the shelf.
AI chatbots for your websiteOnly when the audit shows your customers ask the same questions in volume. Most small businesses need a better FAQ page first.
AI video adsNot a product. We use AI tools to lower the cost of video inside the marketing retainer.

What does an AI consultant in Toronto do for a small business?+
Two measurable things, in our experience of running an agency on these tools: find out whether AI engines recommend you to buyers, and find the recurring tasks where an AI tool saves real hours. Both show results in weeks. According to Statistics Canada (2025), 12.2% of Canadian businesses use AI to produce goods or deliver services; the Zensurance 2026 index found only 9% of small business owners saw meaningful gains from it. The gap is the lack of a plan, which is what the audit produces.
How much does AI consulting cost in Canada?+
According to DesignRush (2026), a small business AI project or agency pilot runs CAD $7,000 to $28,000 over one to three months; Upwork (2026) puts specialized AI and consulting freelancers at CAD $100 to $210 or more an hour, and Clutch (2026) lists most AI firms at CAD $35 to $70 an hour with much higher averages per project. Our AI Search Visibility audit is a fixed CAD $3,500; the AI Opportunity Audit is a fixed price named on the first call and confirmed in writing, because its scope is fixed too.
Which should we start with?+
If you sell to businesses and your leads come from search, start with the AI Search Visibility audit: it changes revenue, and it is done in 10 business days. If your team is drowning in proposals, follow-ups and reports, start with the AI Opportunity Audit: it changes hours. Say which on the first call and we will tell you if we disagree.
Do you build automations?+
The first three from the audit, yes, with training for the people who use them, quoted per item. Agents and deep integrations with accounting or manufacturing systems go to an implementation partner we bring in for the case; we stay the one person you call. Most first automations run on tools you already pay for, so the software line in the plan is usually short.
Which AI tools do you use?+
Claude for writing, analysis and the scheduled runs that produce our invoices on the 15th and rebuild our dashboards on the 8th; Ahrefs Brand Radar and manual prompts for AI visibility measurement; HubSpot for the CRM. We recommend what we run ourselves and name the tool in every plan, with its monthly price.
Is our data safe with AI tools?+
We work in business accounts whose terms exclude training on your data, keep confidential material out of consumer tools, and write down which tool saw what. The audit report includes that list. Projects that touch personal data under PIPEDA get a narrower tool set and a note in the plan on where the data sits, in Canada or in the United States, so your privacy officer can sign off.
Can we get government funding for AI projects?+
Less than two years ago. The Canada Digital Adoption Program grant of up to $15,000 is fully subscribed and not accepting new applications (ISED, 2026). Ontario's Digitalization Competence Centre offers a DMAP matching grant of up to $15,000 for a digital plan and a Technology Demonstration grant of up to $100,000 after it (Ontario Centre of Innovation, 2025). BDC's LIFT program needs at least $1 million in revenue (BDC, 2026). We point you to the program that fits and write the plan it asks for; we are not grant consultants, so the application is yours.
